Las Vegas Realtor Steve Harless - RE/MAX EXTREME 702.217.1680: Gas could go to $10/gal...

Gas could go to $10/gal...

Gasoline May Soon Cost a Sawbuck

Get ready for another economic shock of major proportions - a virtual doubling of prices at the gas pump to as much as $10 a gallon.

That's the message from a couple of analytical energy industry trackers, both of whom, based on the surging oil prices, see considerably more pain at the pump than most drivers realize.

Gasoline nationally is in an accelerated upswing, having jumped to $3.58 a gallon from $3.50 in just the past week. In some parts of the country, including New York City and the West Coast, gas is already sporting a price tag above $4 a gallon. There was a pray-in at a Chevron station in San Francisco on Friday led by a minister asking God for cheaper gas, and an Arco gas station in San Mateo, Calif., has already raised its price to a sky-high $4.62.

This just in: record profits - 14 Billion in just 3 months

Comments

Saw ABC News tonight that indicated that gas prices would be higher now if not for the reserves at the refineries in the US. Once the reserve is gone, all bets are off. As much as I hate to say it, you could be right.

Chut your mouth!  Figuratively... Wonder how much a good horse runs these days?

May be a new thought in my action plan or maybe a new item on my wish list...

There are alternatives....water based fuels.....etc.....when does it become the standard is the question

No no no no no....I would hate for that to happen. Can you see me showing homes on a bicycle? The way I go through gasoline, I am taking a big hit being in real estate - Lorain County in Ohio covers a broad area. I cringe whenever the needle on my tank gets close empty...more money just flying away! - Carla

First I heard $4.50, then $5, and now $10!  It's ridiculous!  I recently read somewhere that if we completely stop buying gas at the big gas stations like Exxon and Mobile, they would be forced to reduce their prices and others would follow suit.  I don't know if it would work, but it's worth a try isn't it?

No, it has nothing to do with Bush. The devaluation of the dollar is the main reason for the rapid rise. This was caused by a poor response to the mortgage crisis. You need ot think about people who see bread and corn triple in price because of farmers in the midwest and bankers in New York. People will adjust. You could always drill for more oil but that is a short term solution. its like a bubble and it will pop. Then we can move on to the social security funds going empty.

The situation is actually pretty scary.  You have to wonder where/when it's going to stop.  For Realtors, it's going to get to the point where we direct our clients to "look at the virtual tour on the internet and pick out a house."  Of course, I'm kidding.  Well, sort of.....

I dont take people out til they have been pre-qualified with MY lender. It is the truth!

I'll be looking for listings with lots of pictures, virtual tours and close to where I live for my clients!
And like Steve said, I will not go out without seeing a pre-qual letter and will not look at anything priced above what the letter states!

Eric: there is so much oil in Canada and Alaska to sustain these problems.... why we are dependent on foreign oil is a huge question, and yes... I do blame it on this administration. The buck has to stop somewhere.  What ever happened to accountability in government?
Posted by Steve Harless "Your Las Vegas Real Estate Connection" (RE/MAX EXTREME - 702.217.1680) about 1 year ago

At some point, the rise in gasoline prices will choke off the economy.  And yes, this administration is at least partly to blame.

Why is it that Republican elected officials refuse to take responsibility for their ownta mistakes?

I love you sign.  Once gas gets to $10 we will all be using some other fuel to get around.

I am building my rickshaw in the garage now...  I'll take pictures and share once I get it into service!  ;-)

I agree Steve, the system is enough to make you want to hold someone responsible...  But only the energy companies, the government and OPEC are the demons here and there is no one holding ANY of these bad boys accountable!

Recumbent Bike

My other car is a RECUMBENT.   : )

I have a colleague who sells BP gas and has been a gas station owner for 30+ years. He defends/deflects the oil companies profits by saying that Microsoft makes billions in profit, and nobody is ripping on THEM. OK. Hmmm.  How about BP sponsoring an economic stimulus plan? I drive 60K miles/year in my rural area for real estate ... I should say I USED to drive that many miles. Last year my gasoline bill alone was $10K, and my car is a smaller fuel-efficient (30mpg) car. I look forward to lpg, methane, high tech turbo diesel (as Europe has been using for many years at high fuel costs) and especially electric and alternative fuels. Thanks Steve, esp. for the cute "sign". Back to my bicycle ...
